Southern Highlands

Join the conversation and meet like-minded older women

Who Are We?

Southern Highlands OWN (SHOWN) is one of our newest groups – the idea formed when two OWN members moved into the district and wanted to offer companionship and activities for the older women in their new area.

At their instigation, Southern Highlands Older Women’s Network (SHOWN) was established in October 2020.

We support our Highlands women who are 55+, with a range of activities locally.

Interested? We would love to hear from you. Please contact shown@ownnsw.org.au if you want to join our distribution list, and we will include you in the mail outs. The annual membership fee for SHOWN is $35.

Below is a list of all the groups you can get involved in.

Come and join the conversation and meet some like-minded women!

Group Meetings

We have a group meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month at 2pm. The cost is $5 to cover refreshments and you need to register with SHOWN so that we can cater.
Time: 2pm – 4pm (Please arrive at 1:45 pm)
Venue: Community Centre, Oaktree Retirement Village, 50 Willow Drive, Moss Vale.

Walking Group

Members currently meet on a Wednesday at 09.30. We meet at various locations (depending on the weather). We walk, and have a coffee along the way, depending on the route. Very occasionally, if it’s too wet to walk, we sometimes just go for a coffee. We are a hardy lot!

Book Clubs

Book group 1 meets on the 1st Monday of the month, at the Post Office Café in Moss Vale. Book group 2 meets on a Wednesday in the Library at The Moss Vale Pub (The pink pub). Book group 3 meets on the 3rd Monday of the month in the Library at The Moss Vale Pub (The pink pub).

Movie Group

We have a Movie Group which meets intermittently at The Empire Cinema in Bowral.

Intergenerational group

We completed our first intergenerational project with the Gumnut Pre-School in Bowral. A small group of our members visited once per week to interact with the children. We hope to run this again this year soon. Great feedback from both our members and the children.

chat & create group

Meets fortnightly at Oaktree. You can do any sort of craft or none at all and just join the group for a chat.

Singing Group

Singing is very therapeutic for women of our age. We will be singing on Mondays after our general meeting and then 2 weeks after that. You don’t have to be able to sing to join the group… it’s also about the therapeutic effects and social interaction! Come along and get that voice working again!

We welcome other suggestions which we will pursue as we grow.
