Our vision is to end isolation and loneliness in our community

Who Are We?

Our group was established in the Macarthur area in May 1997 due to a great need in the area for older women whose families had grown up, partners may have died or departed, and they now found themselves alone.

We started with 12 members in a room in the Benevolent Society’s building and with referrals from them and word of mouth we grew.

We never imagined just how huge the demand for a group based on friendship and shared concerns could be amongst women of our age.

Within a few short years we had outgrown our original digs, and had to search for new rooms to accommodate our ever increasing membership.

Our local Campbelltown City Bowling Club were kind enough to allow us to use their dining room, and for now, we can always squeeze a new member in!

The growth of our group speaks volumes about the unmet needs of older women in our region.

For Macarthur OWN Friendship has always been our number one priority. We meet weekly we celebrate birthdays with a cake.

Our own kids may need reminders for those special calls and cards, but our OWN friends don’t let a week escape without a celebration!

We also have workshops which can be many topics e.g. Craft, health, self-esteem, creative writing and join in with many others conducted by the Benevolent Society.

We try to have a speaker each month on topics of interest, e.g.: Elder law, contemporary authors, safety, genetics and many more.

We also organise activities and outings informally through the various friendships groups that have been formed.

We meet every Wednesday 9:30am – 11:30am at the Campbelltown City Bowling Club, Brown Street, Campbelltown 2560.

Come and meet our members and enjoy the program of activities, including:

  • Guest Speakers
  • Birthday Celebrations
  • Discussions
  • Self-Esteem Workshops
  • Fun and Friendship

Our group’s vision is to end isolation and loneliness in our community. To listen to our member’s needs and wishes and to fulfil them where possible.
